Taste What Makes Baked & Wired a DC Institution
July 18, 2019It’s a funny story, but Baked & Wired, the Georgetown bakery and coffee shop so many locals are mentioning on social media, was supposed to be something entirely different. Tony and Teresa Velazquez set out to run a graphics company in Georgetown, and realized that the neighborhood was lacking a cafe that could produce serious espresso drinks. So they started the business themselves in 2001, and now they’re regularly featured on lists of the best bakeries in the United States.
The espresso bar (sourced from craft roasters with impeccable reputations) gives you your caffeine hit, and the baked goods (cookies, cakes, brownies, pies, and more) will satisfy any sweet tooth. Whether you order an Almond Orangesicle or something else, regulars assure you that you’re getting the best cupcake DC has to offer. As for the line—don’t let it scare you, as the wait is usually just a few minutes.
